Patty was born December 14, 1978 in Bassel, Switzerland from father Willy, a financial manager and mother Iris, a housewife..She has a younger brother. The whole family played tennis Patty made her first marks in 1993 when she won the Swiss Championships, as she did the following year. She finished her first year on the tour ranked #786 and was the player who moved the fastest the next year finishing #152... From then on, Patty improved gradually even reaching #8 in the world in 1999. The previous year had been a dream year on the tennis side as Patty enjoyed 5 titles and winning the award for most improved player. With her lefty game and efficient top spin, she had became one of the top players in the game.. But on a personal note, there were many worries as Patty had very tight links with her coach who had been accused of many things in the past, she had also lost contact with her family and even the WTA tour admitted they were taking all possible precautions to assure she was in safe hands... Shortly after, Patty finally did change coaches but her tennis suffered tremendously as she finally ended the year #21 (after being #8 in February) and has had trouble to recover ever since, she even finished 2001 ranked #37, something hard to beleive after seeing the tremendous talent she showed a few years ago... But in 2002, Patty showed important signs of improvement re-entering the top 20..certainly it will be interesting to follow her in the next months..
