The dream of victory has faded for the favoured 15-year-old French girl
Tatiana Golovin, who was defeated 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 by the Slovakian Jarmila
Gajdosova.
In tennis, it is supposed to be easier to win a game on one's own serve.
But
that was not the case in Tatiana Golovin and Jarmila Gajdosova's
quarter-final today.
The first set involved a succession of breaks on both sides. The
17-year-old
Jarmila Gajdosova, the fourth seed, first broke the French girl's serve to
lead 2-1, but Tatiana Golovin broke back. So it went until the two girls
were tied at 5-5.
The two girls demonstrated a diversified match, with long rallies and
strong
shots both from the baseline and at the net. Despite striking great shots
up
the line, the young Slovakian wasn't playing at her full potential and
lost
the first set 5-7.
The second set took a completely different turn, and the blond Tatiana
with
her long plaits only managed to win one game. She lost the set 6-1 in
double-quick time.
The third set turned out to be just as difficult for last year's
semi-finalist. Leading 4-1, the French girl managed to break again and
claw
back to 4-3, but the Slovakian didn't concede another game.
The 16-year-old girl from Bratislava, ranked 8th in the world, reached the
quarter-finals at the Roehampton grass tournament earlier this month and
was
a semi-finalist at the 2002 US Open Juniors. Her semi-final opponent here
will be against the Belgian Kristen Flipkens, who defeated top seed
Sunitha
Rao.
