December 19th 2007: Uhh.. tough news as Jelena lost her quarterfinal
match, she injured her groin and stopped playing while down 6-3,
3-1:(... She still has a very good shot at receiving a qualifying wild
card for the Australian Open. Let's hope the injury is not too
serious... However, some good news as Jelena asked and received a wild
card for the qualifying event in Hobart that starts January 6th...:)
December 17th 2007: Jelena defeated Wlodarzak6-2, 2-6, 6-4 to end
the round robbin match.. she will now play in the quarterfinals against
Rogowska...!
December 16th 2007: Jelena won her 2nd match as well!! She defeated
Christina Wheeler 3-6, 7-6(0), 6-3!! Although Jelena has one more match
left in the round robbin (tomorrow against
Karolina Wlodarczak), she has now qualified for the quarterfinals that
start Wednesday. "I haven't played matches in a long time. Obviously,
my fitness is not there yet. But it will just take a lot of matches like
this. You know, I play much much better than this in practices, so I
need to be able to put that into my matches," she said."To get a win …
without being at my best today, gives me, gives me more confidence, but
I still have a lot of things to work on." "You know, I haven't … really
played a competitive match, a proper match on the tour, for more than
two years. These girls are actually supposed to beat me. So I don't
think I have any pressure on me. I've proved that I can play tennis with
the best, and I have nothing to prove."
December 15th 2007: More good news:) Jelena won her first match in
Melbourne, she defeated Alenka Hubacek 7-6, 6-0!! Next up will be
Christina Wheeler... go Jelena:)
"It was much better
than I thought it would be,'' said Dokic following her first match since
returning to Melbourne in October."Not my best match obviously but very
happy for the first one and I just have to try and build on this. There's
a long way to go. I didn't pretty much touch my racquet for six months
and fitness either, so I've come a long way and done as much as I can do
in training. "My next part is to try and build on my matches and play
well in my matches which is very tough.''
December 14th 2007: Jelena's first round opponent will be 17
year-old Alenka Hubacek, a good challenge for sure! It is scheduled to
be played tomorrow... go Jelena:)
December 8th 2007: Jelena is now one week ago from starting the Aus
Open Wild Card playoff, the top ranked player will be #142 Jarila
Gajdosova.
December 6th 2007: See a very interesting video interview with
Jelena done in Melbourne, lots of encouraging news these days:) See it
here!
December 2nd 2007: Do you like the new photo of Jelena on the right?
Not bad hey? Jelena is still training hard in Melbourne.
"I needed some time away from the game to sort through some personal
issues but now I'm back and very focused," Dokic told The Sunday Age.
"I've been working very hard in training and I'm hopeful that things
turn out well." "I'd love to play in the Australian Open
again," Dokic said. "… I'd like to think that by the end of 2008, I
could be somewhere in the top 50."
