May 2004 Archives

May 24th 2004: Jelena was defeated today in straight sets in Paris, a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Tatiana Perebiynis. Although it is of course very disapointing to see her go down, we have to acknowledge that Perebiynis probably played one of the best matches of her career, hitting 14 aces, and more than twice as many winners as double faults, stats that simply incredible, especially on clay...  It looks like Jelena will not play in either doubles or mixed doubles so hopefully she can get a good break and refocus for the grass season, where she has always been at her best!
