She won 6-2 6-3 and is now in the quarter finals, where she plays Tatiana Golovin FRA (5)
An article about Michaela from the US Open site: Dutch Girl Wants To Emulate Her Brother by Bob Greene Wednesday, September 3, 2003 Petr Krajicek took up tennis too late to be a champion. His passion for the sport, however, has produced champions. "He started to play when he was 28 or something like that," said his daughter, Michaela. "He decided Richard would play, and then he decided I would play." Richard Krajicek is part of tennis history, winning Wimbledon in 1996. His half-sister is the future of the sport. Michaela Krajicek was seven years old when her brother captured the title at the All-England Club. By then, she had been playing tennis for four years. "I have no idea what I was doing at that age," Michaela said. "I saw the match a lot of times. It wasn't only that my brother was playing. I liked the game." The 14-year-old Dutch girl knows what she's doing now. Right now, that's waiting for the weather to clear, just like everyone else. The wait will continue for at least another day after officials announced at 5:30 p.m. EDT on Wednesday that all junior girls' matches had been postponed. Even at her young age, Krajicek has been a winner, rising up the International Tennis Federation junior rankings to where she is now No. 1 in the world and is the No. 2 seed in the year's final Grand Slam tournament. She understands what the high seeding means. "When you're seeded two, people expect you will be in the final," she said. "I'm just going to play my matches, and I will see how it works. Everything is more difficult in the Grand Slams than a normal tournament." She has done extraordinarily well in "normal" tournaments. At 5-foot-9 and 136 1/2 pounds, Krajicek is a big force on the junior circuit. She was runner-up in the junior girls' at the French Open in June and then won the Canadian Open just before heading to New York and Flushing Meadows. She also captured eight other titles in 2003 to move into the top spot in the rankings. Krajicek got started in the sport when she was three years old. "I started to play tennis with my mom against the wall." She learned quickly enough to lead the Netherlands to victory at the U14 World Junior Tennis final last year. She is coached by her father, who accompanied her to the US Open, and another former Dutch pro, Michiel Schapers. And while she's looking forward to becoming a professional, right now Krajicek has something besides tennis on her mind. "I have to do my school work next week, so that will be pretty tough," she said. "I learn from books, then once a month I do exams. I have to finish three exams for last year, and next year is the last year I have to go to school." While she plans to play more pro tournaments next year, Krajicek is not about to stop playing junior events. At Flushing Meadows, she will team with Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium in the doubles.

A new article after her last match against Golovin (6-1 6-4) next up Cory Ann Avants (USA)
This article is again of the official US Open site: Another Krajicek Makes Her Mark by Elizabeth Schatz Saturday, September 6, 2003 Seven years after Richard Krajicek won Wimbledon, there is another Krajicek on the move – his half-sister, No. 2 Michaela. She reached the semifinals of the US Open juniors tournament Saturday with a straight-set win over No. 5 Tatiana Golovin of France, 6-1, 6-4. At just 14 years old, the Dutch Krajicek has a remarkable cache of sharp shots, including a serve down the middle that rendered the 15-year-old Golovin helpless. Krajicek broke Golovin twice in the first set with sideline winners and a deft overhead that she lobbed past Golovin more than once when the Frenchwoman came to net. While Golovin's seemed sluggish and morose at the end of the first set, she eventually found her spark in the second. Her razor-sharp groundstrokes helped her break Krajicek twice, including one marathon game at 4-3 that saw six deuces. But Krajicek held on to gain her own third break to go up 4-5 and serve it out for the match. Overall, Golovin's inconsistency was her downfall. She followed up several minutes of excellent play with untimely double faults and errors. Krajicek simply showed more tenacity and intelligence with her shots. It must be in her genes. Krajicek will play again Saturday in the semifinals, facing American Cory Ann Avants.
