Born on August 12, 1971 in Washington D.C., Pete started to play tennis at age seven, idolizing Rod Laver and watching tapes of him. One year before he turned pro, in 1987, he changed his two-handed backside to one-handed. He made his Davis Cup debuts  in 1991, helping the US to win in 1992 and in 1995. He was named "Sportsman of the Year" byt the US Olympic Comitee in 1997, being the first player to receive this award.

He's won an incredible amount of  titles over the years, becoming the all-time leader of Grand Slam titles. He remained in the top 10 of the ATP Rankings from 1990 to 2001, yet recently he hasn't played much and many hint that he may retire. Whether this is true or not, Pete has had an incredible career and leaves a lasting legacy to all the future US tennis stars.
