Joachim was born in Lund, Sweden on July 1st 1982 but he currently resides in Monte Carlo, Monaco. No relation to 2002 Australian Open champion Thomas Johansson… Began playing tennis at age five with his father Leif, who was a former Davis Cup player for Sweden in 1974 and was a teammate of Bjorn Borg that year… Mother, Margareta, works in a bank… Born in Lund and spent all his childhood in Sodertalje, same hometown as former No. 1 and 11-time Grand Slam champion Borg… At age 14-15 remembers hitting with Borg at a tennis clinic when he was an up-and-comer… Goes by nickname "Pim-Pim"… Older brother Niclas couldn't say Joachim as a young boy and used to call his brother "Joa-pim"… The name stuck and became Pim-Pim, which is also a well-known hard candy in Sweden… Finished as No. 3 junior in world in 2000 and No. 8 in 1999… Enjoys playing indoors and on fast surfaces… Considers his serve best shot… Coached by countryman Fredrik Rosengren (since November 2004). |
