HENIN-HARDENNE FORCED TO PULL OUT OF ACURA CLASSIC

Injury forces world No.3 out of Tier I event in San Diego

ST. PETERSBURG, FL, USA – Justine Henin-Hardenne (BEL) has been forced to withdraw from the $1,340,000 Acura Classic, which takes place in San Diego the week of July 31.

Henin-Hardenne, champion of this event in 2003, is suffering from a right knee injury. “It is with great disappointment that I have to withdraw from the Acura Classic this year due to an injury to my right knee,” said Henin-Hardenne. “The Acura Classic is one of the premiere events on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour and has been one of my favorite tournaments to play. I am already rehabilitating and hope to be back on the court competing very soon. I wish the tournament great success this year and look forward to playing there in the future.”

The Acura Classic boasts 26 of the world's Top 30 players, including Kim Clijsters, Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams and comeback sensation Martina Hingis.

With Henin-Hardenne’s withdrawal, world No.32 Tatiana Golovin (FRA) moves into the main draw and will be making her second appearance at the Acura Classic.
