Q. Again you win the first set easy today, then you played not so well in the second. How could you explain that? KIM CLIJSTERS: Yeah, I think I was a little bit too ‑‑ going for my shots too early in the rally. A couple of times I missed my shots where she hit a high ball and I try to get into the court and I just missed them. You know, just a little bit not too patient enough, I think. Yeah, I think I just, you know, wasn't making the right decisions at the right time I think in those few games. Lucky enough, when I was down 3‑2, you know, I broke back and I got my game back to where it should be. So I ended well, so that's important. Q. What do you expect at this French Open? Do you expect to go to the final? KIM CLIJSTERS: No, we don't ‑‑ the players, we don't think like that. We expect, I mean, first of all, be ready, as good as we can. I think that's the first goal. Then we'll see from there on how far we go. You know, I think we expect to be able to do our best, a hundred percent during match days. During off days, you have to do everything possible to be as good as possible on the match days. We don't think about expecting to play in a final. Every match you play is a match. There can be a winner and a loser. We don't think about the finals at all. Q. How do you feel playing two days in a row? KIM CLIJSTERS: I mean, I had I think it was three days off now. You know, I'm here to play tennis, so obviously I prefer to play than to just hang around here. But, you know, I play again tomorrow. I'm happy I play again tomorrow. It's no problem. In normal tournaments, we do it as well. It's not that we're not used to it. Q. When you were weighing the pros and cons of your decision to retire in '07, what were the pros? KIM CLIJSTERS: Excuse me? Q. When you were weighing the pros and cons of your decision to retire in '07, what were the pros? KIM CLIJSTERS: Well, my main decision is just that I want to still be able to be healthy when I'm, you know, older. I don't want to be having injuries that cause me to not be able to do all the things that I want to do when I stop playing tennis. That's why I felt in the last year and a half, I felt like my injuries have been restricting me from the game of tennis that I want to play and the level that I used to play. You know, that's hard to ‑‑ you know, that's hard for me to sometimes, you know, being able ‑‑ not being able to play the tennis that I want to play or that I know I can play because I'm restricted. That's what made me choose, the pros and cons. You know, I'm sure there's going to be some pros and cons in everything, all the decisions that you make. But, yeah, it's something that I just, you know, is a decision for myself. I mean, I know that I've had back pains for the last year or so, on and off, but it's been very frustrating, too. Q. And what about the cons when you were weighing it? KIM CLIJSTERS: The first time I started thinking about it was more during when I had my wrist surgery. There I really felt like, you know, I want to give it another go because I felt like, you know, I'm not done yet with my tennis. You know, I'm still very motivated. And I was. Like I was working really hard. I still am. I'm still motivated to play out there. But in a way it's frustrating that I'm not able to do it like I wanted to do it. Q. When you are playing particularly well, does that give you pause to reconsider? KIM CLIJSTERS: Well, I mean, I have to say, I don't think I've played a week the last year or so being a hundred percent physically. So, you know, you don't feel the same as when you're 15. I mean, when I was 15, 16, I mean, I played singles, doubles every tournament. You know, there was one year where I played at least a semifinal in all the tournaments that I played. If I had to do that now, you could take me to the hospital. As you get older, you have to make decisions. And tennis, women's tennis, has become a lot more like physical demanding, I think, than what it used to be. Visit the Kim Clijsters page here
