One of the matches everybody was looking forward to was the match between eleventh seeded Spaniard Rafael Nadal and wildcard Frenchman Gael Monfils.They had never met each other before in an ATP tournament.

By winnng the toss,Rafael chose to serve and took an early 1-0 lead over Monfils.Monfils tried to come back breaking Rafael serve twice to get a 3-3 tie, but in the end Rafael won the first set 6-3.

The first two games of the second set were dominated by Gael but were short lived as Rafael came back from two games down to dominate the second set 6-2.The whole match lasted and hour and twenty-two minutes and will see Rafael play Belgian Xavier Malisse.
