G'day everybody!
Well we have approached our years 1st Grand Slam, The Australian Open! The weather will be sunny and for all us Europeaners, it means early early mornings so we can see our favourite players in action! Here I will preview the top 6 seeds and see what chance they have of taking the Aussie Open title!
Roger Federer ~ Well well, what can I say, he
might not have been so pleased with his draw, against the Frenchman Fabrice
Santoro. He is a tough opponent to beat and he has won doubles a few times in
Australia already, so I hope this plays a crucial part in this match. I havent
seen Federer play this year and I think he has a reasonable draw minus his
farely tough first round draw.
Andy Roddick ~ Andy has a reasonable start to the
year, he has only lost one match, which was of course to Federer. I havent
seen him play since he changed coach. He will play the Georgian Irakli Labadze
in the first round. He and Andy have never played but I'm sure Andy will have
done his homework for this match. Andy has a very reasonable draw will no real
threats coming to the latter stages. Andy is fresh and more determined than
ever this year, I really hope he can win the Australian.
Lleyton Hewitt ~ The home pressure will really get
to Hewitt. I dont think he ever performs his best at his home Slam, due to all
the pressure put on him. I dont see him coming through this Slam because~ last
year he lost 4 times to Federer in the Slams and everytime seemed to be a
complete anialated, losing a couple of sets 6-0. In the opening round, Hewitt
will play the talented Frenchman Arnauld Clement. An upset is very possible
here if Hewitt has one of his occasional off days.
Marat Safin ~ Marat should play well at the
Australian, he always does. Last year he made the most amazing comeback to
reach the final, he also reaches the final in 2002, I hope he can go one
further and win. Safin is a real joy to watch, (almost as much as Roddick!),
and his form in the latter part of 2004 showed he is very much so going to
pose a threat to Federer and his dominance this year.He plays a qualifier in
the opening round. I hope Marat can play well and reach the latter stages.(
and a couple of matches in straight sets would be great also!)
Carlos Moya ~ Carlos is a good hard court player
and he could surprise many people by doing really well or flumping misreably.
He didnt play the Australian last year as he got injured at the last minute so
its hard for me to tell what he will play like on that surface. He should play
well as he has already won a tournament in Chennai, proving his ability to
play on the surface. He faces a qualifier in the opening round. Its tough to
say what Carlos will play like, but everyone knows at his very best he can
beat almost anyone.
Guillermo Coria ~ Guillermo has had a good year so
far, he has played alot, showing alot of commitment in order to adapt to the
surface. He is a great player on his day, even though he can be very erratic.
Coria playes the Czech Tomas Berdych in the first round, I think if he is
playing well this should be an easy tie! I hope Guillermo can produce the
magic he produces on the dust on this surface- as it is amazing to watch.
Outsiders?
Gael Monfils ~ everybody knows this talented
Frenchmen, I dont need to explain do I?
Juan Carlos Ferrero ~ seeded 31, I just hope Juan
Carlos can re-discover the form that took him to the semis last year, he also
plays a qualifier in the opening round.
