ST. PETERSBURG, FL – Women’s Tennis Association (WTA Tour) stars Maria Sharapova and

In addition to a Sharapova v. Capriati singles match, the WTA Tour’s “Hurricane Tennis Slam” will feature special appearances by Governor Jeb Bush, local celebrities and a doubles match with many other top players on the professional women’s tennis tour.

“Many of the top women’s tennis players in the world live, train and play in Florida and the worldwide headquarters for the Women’s Tennis Association is in St. Petersburg. Our families, friends, neighbors and communities were all affected by this year’s unprecedented hurricane activity,” said WTA Tour CEO Larry Scott. “With the tremendous support of our partners, we are thrilled to bring the excitement of professional women’s tennis to the area in a way that also raises much-needed funds to help ongoing rebuilding efforts.”

“This is going to be a fun afternoon of exciting, entertaining tennis for our fans,” said World No. 6 and Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova. “Best of all, this is a great way for us to give back to the communities we call home. And I can think of no better time to do this than the holidays.” Prior to the exhibition, the players will participate in a free Kids Tennis Clinic at the St. Petersburg

Tennis Center on December 18 at 10:30 a.m. The clinic will also feature renowned tennis instructor Nick Bolletieri of the famed Nick Bolletieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Fla. and several of his up-and-coming tennis student stars.
