So, the road to the US Open begins here for Andy! After his amazing run at Wimbledon he now heads to Indianapolis for the RCA Championships to defend the first of four titles that he won last year during the US Hardcourt Season.

Here I will preview the tournament and give my verdict on who will come out on top!

2003 finals:

A Roddick bt P Srichaphan 76(2) 64
Ancic/Ram bt Ayala/Ginepri 26 76(3) 75

This year has a strong entry list with many crowd favourites and past champions returing, including
Paradorn Srichaphan- runner up last year
Sjeng Schalken- Wimbledon quater finalist
Gustavo Kuerten-3 times Roland Garros Champion and 2001 winner
as well as many of Andy's fellow countrymen, James Blake, Robby Ginepri, Taylor Dent and Mardy Fish.

Points and Prize Money Breakdown

W        40             $74,250
RU       28             $43,700
SF       18              $25,750
QF       10             $15,115

Looking at the draw, its looks very easy for Andy as there are really no main threats for him. I have just heard that Andre Agassi(the no.2 seed) has just withdrawn from the tournament.
Andy should really win this tournament comfortably as he has beaten just about every player in the draw.

Outsiders likely to cause upsets:

Robin Soderling: A solid performer the whole year, beating many top 20 players. This talented youngster has a big future ahead of him.

Tommy Haas: Tommy only recently came back to the tennis tour after spending the whole of 2003 out with a shoulder injury. This week he beat Andre Agassi en route to the final of LA where tonight he will play fellow German Nicolas Kiefer. He also beat Andy en route to the Texas title in April on clay.

So thats it! The Road to Flushing Meadow begins here! After this Andy will be heading to defend his TMS Titles in Toronto and Cincinatti before heading to Athens for the Olympics and then to New York for the US Open.

Good Luck Andy!
