MARIA SHARAPOVA’S JULY SCHEDULE CHANGESWhen I originally planned my ambitious summer schedule, I dreamed about -- but didn’t count on --winning Wimbledon. This past week has been the most unbelievable time of my life. I want to make sure that I stay strong and play at my highest level for the rest of the season and beyond. So, after talking with my advisors, including my dad and the WTA Tour, we have made the difficult decision to change my schedule to allow me to get some mandatory rest and recovery time. I’m going to participate in the World TeamTennis Pro League on Wednesday (July 14) for my friend, Billie Jean King. I enjoyed playing last year in Newport Beach in front of such enthusiastic fans and hope I can do it again next season since I’ve been playing WTT since I was 15. I will return to the WTA Tour for the Acura Classic in San Diego on July 26. I also plan to play the Pilot Pen in New Haven leading up to the U.S. Open. I love the JP Morgan Chase Open tournament in Los Angeles, and I am so sorry that I will not be able to play again this year. I look forward to playing it next year, and will hope to earn enough points on the tour to return to Los Angeles and the Staples Center later this year for the Championships. I am so appreciative for everyone’s support and well-wishes, and I want to continue to perform at my best to earn their continued support. Thank you.
