Daniela Hantuchova in Warsaw, Poland It’s been approximately four weeks since Daniela last played in a tournament, the Nasdaq-100 tourney in Miami was Daniela’s last. Since then Daniela has been absent from the American courts missing tournaments in Amelia Island and Charleston which she attended last season, Daniela even missed out in the Fed Cup which Slovakia is the defending champion. News about Daniela has been quiet lately but the story is that Daniela is injured; there is a wrist problem that has kept Daniela off the courts lately, hopefully that is taken cared of and she will play her best this week in Poland for the J&S tournament. Daniela is seeded 45 in the world, and is the #16th in the tourney. Daniela’s first round opponent is Maria Sanchez Lorenzo, a tough opponent for Daniela because Lorenzo has had a couple of clay matches already, while this will be Daniela’s first match on clay. These two players have never met; Lorenzo has had a couple of good wins over the higher seeds this season including Emilie Loit, Eleni Danilidou and Francesca Schiavone. Daniela’s highest rank win this season is against Maria Sharapova in Tokyo. If Daniela beats Sanchez Lorenzo, it is most likely Anna Smashnova Pistolesi in the 2nd round, head to head: 1-1. This is a pretty clean route for Daniela, if she gets through those two hard players, the #3 seed of the tourney, Vera Zvonareva is in line – but let’s not look too far ahead, as Daniela says “one match at a time”. Good Luck Daniela Doubles:
Daniela’s 21st Birthday was celebrated on Friday April 23; We all hope you had a very happy birthday Daniela!!! J Visit the Daniela Hantuchova page here
