Marion Bartoli versus Maria Elena Camerin

Vivo Portugual. The women of the WTA are also headed for the Estoril Open this week where Marion Bartoli is the eight seed. After a disappointing loss to her countrywoman Cohen-Aloro last week, Marion is trying to regroup after a great doubles win with Loit. Marion lost a lot of points for not playing Miami as she reached the quarters last year. She is also opting to play a lower Tier event than Charleston so that means she really is anxious to go deep in the draw. In this match look for Bartoli to dominate the baseline rallies and occasionally venture to the net.

Weakness: Like Harkleroad, Bartoli hasn't had a shining season so she may lack the spark she needs to win.

I haven't really seen Camerin play because she is not a regular on the Tour. She started her season in Hobart with tough wins over Cervanova and Vento Kabchi, reaching the semifinals. There she was dismissed in a tight two set win by Amy Frazier. She then went to the Aussie Open where she made it to the second round before being bagelled by Clijsters. Her next great week was last week in Casablanca. As the eight seed she beat her countrywoman Vinci and Martinez Granados before losing to Koukalova in the quarters. Camerin is definitley a "dirt-baller" which means she thrives on the clay. She also really loves to hit her backhand. Her idol is Capriati so of course that backhand is deep and flat. In this match look for Maria to keep Marion guessing with some loopy shots and drop shots and then some flat drillers down the line.

Weakness: Maria may be a little tired after having a solid week in Morocco so we'll see how that plays out.

Who has the Edge?

Serve- Bartoli
Groundies- Bartoli
Movement- Bartoli
Intangibles- Camerin has no pressure
Volley- Bartoli

The odds are in Bartoli's favour and if she loses this match I will be shocked. For Marion, play smart tennis and try and use your Morocco winning volleys. For Maria, don't be scared. You have nothing to lose so hit freely.

Matt's Pick: France will roll past Italy's Camerin 6-3 6-1.

Thanks!
