CHANDA RUBIN FORCED TO WITHDRAW FROM PACIFIC LIFE OPEN World No. 9 hampered by knee injury INDIAN WELLS, USA – American Chanda Rubin withdrew from the Pacific Life Open due to inflammation in her left knee, which is the same injury that forced her withdrawal in late January at the Toray Pan Pacific Open."Of course I'm really disappointed that I'm not able to play," said the current world No.9 from the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. "I've done everything possible to be ready for this tournament, but this is something that needs to be taken care of. It's something that needs to heal on its own." Rubin, a quarterfinalist last year at this event, was scheduled to make her eighth appearance in Indian Wells, Calif. "I'm especially disappointed for the great fans, the sponsors and for myself because I was looking forward to competing for the title," Rubin said. "I really enjoy being in Indian Wells. The tournament has always treated me well. Right now, I just need to make sure that I'm healthy in preparation for the upcoming tournaments." Rubin's next scheduled event is the NASDAQ-100 Open, which starts March 24 in Miami, Fla. The Pacific Life Open starts Wednesday and features the top two players in the world plus former champions Lindsay Davenport and Daniela Hantuchova. World No. 1 Justine Henin-Hardenne is coming off a title defense at the Dubai Duty Free Women's Open two weeks ago while No. 2 Kim Clijsters is looking to defend her title here. *** Visit the Andy Roddick's page here
