Daniela Hantuchova fires Nigel Sears (?)

by Maria Nguyen

Through the past months there might have been little rumours going on that maybe Daniela was getting rid of Nigel Sears, her coach, but now this “rumour” might be true.  On the website of www.tennisreporters.net and the BBC website, they have been saying that Daniela and Nigel are done – though Daniela hasn’t found a new coach yet.

Daniela has worked with Nigel since June 2001 and has got her a title at a Tier 1 tournament (Indian Wells) and a career high ranking of #5.  But since then Daniela has slipped down this past 12-months, from #5 in the world, Daniela is now lowly ranked as the #19.

There hasn’t been a confirmation about this report from either Daniela or Nigel but a WTA Tour spokesman has said “It's not necessarily a permanent split” – but maybe it’s time to say goodbye to Nigel though, he has got her as far as he could already.  And as the new season of 2004 starts, it’s a good idea to start off fresh and new (considering her results from this season…).  Good Luck Daniela!
