Generali Ladies - Linz

2nd Round

Lina Krasnoroutskaya V Nadia Petrova

6-4 2-6 1-6

After producing an encouraging win in the first round against Italian Silvia Farina Elia Lina's stay in this years Generali Ladies in Linz was cut short by a fellow Russian - Nadia Petrova.

Lina having not played many tournaments recently will have been looking forward to this match, Nadia has been playing week in week out recently and this was a chance for Lina to perhaps beat her slightly fatigued Russian compatriot. In the end however the quality of Petrova shone through and Lina had to succomb to a  three set defeat on center court.

Krasnoroutskaya started the match in good form, playing attacking tennis she managed to win a very close tough fought first set 6-4. Unfortunately Lina would only win another three games in the whole of the match. Petrova stepped up her level of both tennis and effort and began to impose herself on her opponent. It was easy to see why Petrova has been getting the good results recently, namely in defeating Elena Dementieva in Zurich. Her punishing ground strokes and deep hitting forehands began to take there toll on Lina, who eventually lost the second set 2-6.

The momentum was now with Nadia and she continued to improve her tennis in the third set, Lina on the otherhand did not have the quality needed on the day to keep up with her. The games rolled past quickly as both players knew the result of the match was a forgone conclusion. After a little over an hour and a quarter Petrova wrapped up the match and took the final set 6-1.

Altho Lina did not progress far in this years tournament it still served as a positive for her. Providing her with a good solid victory over Silvia Farina Elia and keeping her on the long road to full recovery from her career threatening injury suffered last year.

Next year we should see Lina come back fully fit and raring to go, heading for the Top 20.

Well Done Lina
