Zvonareva’s second round preview
by Vassily
After successfully completing a 3 set against the veteran Amanda Coetzer in the first round, Zvonareva has advanced to the second round of the Tier 1 Kremlin Cup event in Moscow. Was her performance good or bad? No doubt it was a good one, considering that Amanda is just two lines away from Vera on the WTA ranking list. So what’s next? Now Vera faces, well…another Vera. Yet another Russian riser, 16 years of age, Vera Douchevina as a wild-card entrant has already upset Lisa Raymond (28 in the world). And now Douchevina is aiming to shoot down even a higher target. But this upset is currently in the fantasy section of the WTA. Although Douchevina played very well this year, considering her age and ranking, upsetting players like Chladkova (no.35) and Benesova, reaching her career-first semifinal, she is very unlikely to defeat Zvonareva. Despite all the similarities between Douchevina and her compatriot, she still has a long way to go until she could play on the same level as Vera Z. So what does that mean for Vera (Zvonareva)? Well, must mean yet another Tier I quarterfinal! Lets hope that it will be so. Visit the Vera Zvonareva page here
