Lina Match Review
Rogers AT&T Cup - Toronto
Lina Krasnoroutskaya V Katarina Srebotnik 3-6 6-3 6-4 Lina's great Toronto adventure continued today as the Russian put on battling performance to dispence with the Slovak Katarina Srebotnik 3-6 6-3 6-4. Riding on the back of the magnificant victory over Kim Clijsters in the 3rd round Lina showed maturity and strength of mind today on the center court in Toronto. Expectations were of course a little higher than usual for Lina today, media and fan attention was focused on her to her due to her victory yesterday but she kept her focus and produced another winning performance. The Match Lina's confidence would have been sky high for this match but the 1st set was a reminder for her, not to get over confident. She started in the worst possible way losing her opening service game, she was then unable to break back, Srebotnik took a 2-0 lead - it was not the start Lina had wanted. However she regained her composure and held her next service game before breaking the Srebotnik serve to make it all square at 2-2. Just when we thought Lina had found her game she let Katarina back into the match by losing her next service game. Lina couldnt regain a level footing in the match and after 30minutes the 1st set was taken 6-3 by her opponent. Perhaps the win against Kim gave Lina a new sense of belief in herself and her game because after losing the 1set set the match changed and turned around, Lina began to find the shots that had eluded her in the 1st set. After taking a 3-0 lead the set appeared to be almost over but once again a dip in concentration allowed Srebotnik to get back into the match. Poised at 4-3 Lina managed to break Katarina again to make it 5-3 before holding her own serve to take the 2nd set 6-3 With the match level at 1 set a piece it was too tough to call the overall winner and in the end the final set went right down to the wire. With the nerves beginning to show from both players the match reached a crucial moment. With Krasnoroutskaya serving at 3-2 down a hold of serve was vital but Srebotnik found an extra gear and broke her serve. The pressure was really on now, Lina had to break back or face elimination from the tournament. Showing the form that took her past Clijsters Lina pulled out a great game breaking back straight away taking the score to 4-4. With Srebotnik serving at 4-4 Lina once again pulled out some fantastic shots, keeping her level of concentration high she managed to hold her final service game to take the match 3-6 6-3 6-4. In Conclusion Another great perfomance by Lina gives her a semi final place in Toronto. Her opponent will be Argentinian Paola Suarez - ranked 32 in the world and showing some good form at this years Tournament, this match will provide a stern test for Lina. However with victories over Daniilidou, Schiavone, Kim Clijsters and now Srebotnik Lina will fancy her chances against Suarez and that dream place in this years final could soon become a reality.
Congratulations Lina
