Lina Preview

JPMorganChase Open - Los Angeles

Viktoriya Kutuzova - Lina Krasnoroutskaya

6-4  6-4

This years JPMorganChase open has ended for Lina in the first round with a very disappointing defeat at the hands of 14 year old Viktoriya Kutuzova. The straight sets defeat will come as a huge disappointment for Lina, who in fairness would have considered this match to be a lot easier than it ultimately turned out to be.

Not much can be said about the match itself, Lina did not play the tennis she has been showing in recent weeks. Credit should go though to the 14 year old Kutuzova, she matched the Russian shot for shot and showed great mental strength in over coming Krasnoroutskaya, she certainly didnt show any hints of her tender age.

The Match

Both sets were closely fought affairs with the players fighting hard to hold their respective service games. With the first set going the way of Kutuzova 6-4 the crowd and perhaps the players were expecting Lina to step up a gear in the 2nd set. In the end though Krasnoroutskaya couldnt find answers posed by Viktoriya Kutuzova. After another close set the 14 year old rounded off an unbelievable victory, taking the 2nd set and match 6-4 6-4.

Looking Forward

What next for Lina? Well things were going nicely up and till this match, some good results and impressive form cannot be wiped out though by this one bad match. It was a disappointment yes but thats all it is, nothing more. Lina will now have to prepare herself for her next tournament - the Rogers AT&T Cup Toronto.

Depending on her draw for this tournament i feel Lina has the ability to progress in Toronto - she will certainly have learned from her defeat yesterday to Kutuzova and that will hopefully motivate her to avoid another first round defeat.
