Lina Preview
Acura classic- San Diego. 3rd round- Lina Krasnoroutskaya vs Lindsay Davenport. Lina heads into her third round clash with American Lindsay Davenport after moving through the first two rounds at a fairly lesuirely pace. Today, the Russian took a convincing 6-2 6-2 victory over Silvia Farina Elia which should put her in confident mood as she attempts to progress further in San Diego. Davenport, a semi-finalist in 2002, will no doubt be wanting to firstly emulate that performance and then go one step further this year, meaning Lina will have some tough competition. It is certainly an interesting tie between the pair who previously, have never met before. Davenport this week, has been doing well since the foot injury which caused her withdrawal from Stanford a week ago. Of course, this is Lina's toughest test so far and the biggest match since her dissapointing second round exit at Wimbledon to fellow Russian Anastasia Myskina, and like today, needs to carry momentum from her last victory and treat this match no differently, irrespective of her opponent . As mentioned in an earlier preview, Lina needs a big result and this could be the perfect opportunity. A victory over a player such as Lindsay would give her a welcome boost in the rankings and certainly put her in good stead for the remaining rounds of the tournament. A win in straight sets seems a tough task, although her 1st and 2nd round matches have shown just how well Lina is currently playing. Davenport will go into the match as favourite and a Krasnoroutskaya triumph would surely be regarded as an upset. A contender for upset of the tournament? well, lets hope so! Lina has the prospect of a QF match against either Chanda Rubin or Jelena Dokic but will obviously be focusing on her 3rd match before even thinking about what lies in waiting. The draw has all of a sudden become a greater challenge as the top players make their mark. Remember, prior to this week Lina had not played a match since Wimbledon, so has really done well to perform the way she has. Confidence, power and aggression are the just some of the factors needed in order for Lina to overcome the hard hitting Davenport, and she is displaying all of these at the moment! Its certainly going to be a challenge, but lets hope Lina will provide us with another victory and one that will definitely go down very well!! Good Luck Lina!!
