Simply email us Maria's run in Melbourne to start... 8/1/2003 By Matt Donaldson Maria's first Australian Open is upon us, and this morning saw the draw of the qualifying rounds for the womens tournament. Maria faces three matches before she reaches the first round. Tomorrow on court 19 Maria will be second match on against the Czech Renata Voracova, who is ranked 67 places ahead of her. If she wins, she will either face compatriot Maria Goloviznina or Australian Olivia Lukaszewicz. Finally, she will face one of Sophie Ferguson, Alena Vaskova, Janet Lee or Angeles Montolio. Put simply, this is Maria's section of the qualifying draw:  Renata Voracova CZE (10)           vs.         Maria Sharapova RUS  -------------------------------------------------------------- Maria Goloviznina RUS            vs.        Olivia Lukaszewicz -----------------------------------------------------------    Sophie Ferguson             vs.         Alena Vaskova CZE                Janet Lee TPE            vs.         Angeles Montolio ESP (17)   With three games ahead of her, it will be hard work for Maria.
